Return of the Mack

Yes, it’s the Return of The Mack (scroll to the bottom for the video of the classic 90’s jam). The Mackintosh style trench coat is as classic as it comes in menswear. Bonobos released a slim, streamline and beautifully tailored  trench called the “Shamus” (offered in navy or khaki). Trenches are often synonymous with detective or flasher types (to each his own); however, this trench will give you the option of choosing your “trenching” style.

If you have been a reader of Men’s Style Pro, you have seen that I have worn a variety of trench coats. Most of these trenches have been of the double-breasted variety (meaning the closing flaps overlapped, with two rows in buttons running parallel). The Shamus trench by Bonobos is a single breasted version of the popular, water-resistant coat. In my opinion, going with the single-breasted option is much more versatile than it’s double-breasted big brother.

Trick and Tips to wearing a Mack aka Water Resistant Trench:

  • Don’t jump out of dark alley ways (that the calling card of a flasher).
  • Rain is not necessary to wear a trench
  • If you plan to wear your trench with a suit or a blazer, make sure that the trench is longer than either one.
  • The most versatile length for a trench is to fall at mid-thigh
  • A trench can dress up a casual look and will look perfect with a dressier look

Sabir – I was considering that coat too. How do you like it?

I love this coat. I ended up sizing down one for the perfect fit and I can still get a blazer under there.

        Hi JT,

This particular coat is a size small. Love this fit!

Sabir, what size would the LEC Cord Jacket be that you’re wearing? We have similiar builds and I’ve been eyeing it for a while.

        Hey Lance,

I actually called LEC before purchasing it to get the measurements. Once I talked to the representatives, I actually purchased the small. It fits great. Typically, LEC runs a little larger. I am usually a medium.

        Thanks for reading,

Thx for all the idea’s. I think white pants are just about accepted year round now. I never would have put the brown denium jaket with the white pants or the graphite t-neck under the camel sport coat…nice. I have all of those garments. He even has my heavy gold watch. Can’t wait to use all the new combonations:)

[…] Sabir Peele of Men’s Style Pro reviewed this recently, and seems to like it.  I’d been toying with purchasing a new raincoat – mine has seen better days – and have had my eye on this one since they launched it last fall.  Is it something I absolutely need?  No, but it would be nice to have.  And in navy it would go with nearly everything I own.  It’s kind of a no-brainer.
