Trail Blazer feat. Breanna Stillman

(Disclaimer: 1st time in the history of Men’s Style Pro doing a menswear inspired women’s post, maybe you will see more, maybe not)

James Brown was once famous for singing, “This is a man’s world“. Even though, men have laid their claim to many things, style is one thing that women may still have a leg up on us gents (Men’s Style Pro still believes men’s style is the sh*t!!). When it comes to menswear, one thing that I have continued to stress is that blazers should be staples in every man’s your wardrobe.

One of the great things about menswear is that women have a great way of adapting pieces inspired by their male counterparts into their everyday wardrobe flawlessly. Women that can effectively wear menswear pieces often come off as so attractive and stylish. The blazer is something that I consider my go to piece and women have that same option

Women do have same advantages when it comes to rocking blazer that men don’t have such as;

  • In choice of color, women can wear a larger variety (which allows for color blocking)
  • Length of blazer. Cropping is ideal for women, but, going for the over-sized “boyfriend” look is also an option.
  • Fabric choices are endless. Women can use flowier fabrics like pure silk and chiffon that contour to their silhouettes that men won’t use.

I teamed up with the beautiful Breanna Stillman to show some ways she likes to style her blazers (This time I stepped behind the camera and gave a bit of styling input). Guys, take note of some of her layering options because we could definitely pull them off too.

Skirting the Issue

Pairing a blazer with a pencil skirt is great option and way to show a bit of business-style and femininity. As with menswear, pairing your blazer with a turtleneck is a way to mix up your look and add a bit of unexpected colors. As you can see, Breanna belted this blazer because it is a bit over-sized. The look works well because all of the colors are solids.

Lady on the go

For the woman on the go, a blazer is a must. Mix a rich color blazer with a neutral shirt and pair of pants and never look back (unless someone is taking a picture of you). This is a great time to be adventurous with your accessories. Go bold with you shoe color, mix up your metals with your watches and bracelets and roll up your sleeves.

Just One of the Guys

Sometimes you just have to face facts; putting together an outfit should be about having fun and convenience, when necessary. After a long night out, you may need to head out and grab a cup of coffee to get your day going the next morning. Layer up your blazer with a fitted hoodie and some dark rinse jeans. Just because you are wearing a hoodie, doesn’t mean you have to look like a slob. Nix the crazy emblems and go with a solid hoodie. Add a splash of gentlemanly style to your look with a silk patterned pocket square.

Lady in Red

Blazer: H&M – Blouse: Jcrew – Jeans: Jcrew toothpick ankle (Here) – Heels: Jcrew Mona Pumps (Here)

Be bold with your color choices. When going bold with your blazer let the base of your outfit be solid or neutral. Breanna kept her base colors in the navy blue family, which can often act as a blank canvas. A flowy blouse under a well structured blazer is a perfect juxtaposition of hard and soft of this look. Don’t be afraid to throw a pop of color in with your footwear when you have gone with a solid color as your base.

Going Nude

Blazer: H&M – Shirt: H&M – Pants: Jcrew Wool Café Capris (Here) – Belt: Jcrew (Here) – Shoes: G by Guess (at DSW here)

When using a splash color outside of your blazer, go with a nude blazer option as your neutral “grounding” piece. Never forget a t-shirt works well with a blazer as long as it is form fitting. This particular look emphasizes the over-sized blazer.  Rolling up the sleeves will give you that “boyfriend” nonchalant feel. A patterned shirt goes well with a neutral blazer, Breanna’s look is a clear example.

I agree those are my favorite as well. Nothing is more attractive in my opinion than a girl that can pull out menswear. It just exudes confidence and shows a unique quality that can’t be matched
